Louisiana Tech University Choices, the North Central Alliance Partners in Prevention Community Coalition, the Louisiana Highway Safety Comission, and the Lincoln Parish Sheriff's Office have teamed up to create an important display in our community. The Lives Lost to Alcohol Display reflects the number of alcohol crash related deaths that have occurred in Lincoln Parish from 1997-2007. To date, that includes 29 deaths. Each silhouette represents one life lost. The display is lit at night for passersby to reflect on the choices we each make and how those choices can impact others.

We can never have too many reminders of the toll alcohol has on lives. We see lives lost from wrecks, effects on families through divorce, jobs lost, financial hardships for families and the list goes on.A drinker never gets richer, better looking or smarter.I know as a scientist because I have worked with a research team in years past that one drink DESTROYS 5 thousand brain cells. You never regrow brain cells.

The display I passed on the Service Rd last week was deeply moving, the silhouettes lit in almost sacred fashion against the night sky. What a powerful visual image to remind us of the tragic losses we have already suffered due to alcohol. My daughters, 19 and 20, have lost 3 friends; our small town has suffered shocking tragedies. Thank you for this work and the awareness it creates.
